Description

Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble is a 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 1979 by Eileen Carson, who also serves as artistic director of the company. She is a choreographer, dancer, vocalist, songwriter, and teacher. Footworks presents live music and dance as a celebration of cultural diversity and traditional arts. Their work is known for its irresistible appeal to a wide range of the general public, including enthusiasts of folk and traditional arts as well as theater concert audiences. Footworks performances have an energy and enthusiasm that appeals strongly to young audiences, due to Ms. Carson’s ongoing dedication to arts-in-education.

Footworks has toured nationally and internationally since 1979, including taking part in a Smithsonian Institution tour of Japan, and performing as guest artists with “Riverdance” in London. The company has performed and taught in schools with Young Audiences since 1980. Founder and Artistic Director Eileen Carson Schatz is an an Arts in Education Certified Teaching Specialist, an NEA Choreography Fellow, a recipient of the “Annie” Award from the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County, and the 2006 Young Audiences of Maryland’s Artist of the Year.
