For a child, clear vision is an essential ingredient to achieving social and academic success. Yet one child in four is born with poor vision. Because 80% of learning is visual during for the first 12 years of life it is critical that children with vision problems be identified early and provided the tools necessary to reaching their full potential. Yet thousands of Florida children sit in classrooms day after day, underachieving, acting out, and disrupting the lives of fellow classmates, simply because they are unable to see their world clearly. Unfortunately poverty prevents thousands of children from receiving the vision intervention they so desperately need. Since the inception of the Vision Quest program in 1994, it has been the mission of Florida’s Vision Quest to ensure the academic and social success of Florida’s children by ensuring that every child can see the chalkboard, the text and their world clearly by providing free vision exams and quality new eyeglasses.
