Description
Founded in 1898, the Fleisher Art Memorial is one of the nation’s first community arts centers. Its mission is to make art accessible to everyone, regardless of economic means, background, or artistic experience, and arises from the vision of its founder, Samuel Fleisher.
Each year, over 16,000 people experience the transformative power of art through free and low-cost visual arts classes for all ages, contemporary exhibitions of new and emerging artists, and community site-based programs that reach deeply into its surrounding South Philadelphia neighborhoods.
Fleisher is widely recognized for its exceptional caliber, and has been cited as a model of excellence by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities under both the Bush and Obama administrations.
