Description
As one of the newest food banks in the Feeding America network of food banks, our very first distribution occurred in the parking lot of one of our local partner agencies – The San Diego Rescue Mission – on October 9th, 2007. In February of 2008, FASD moved into a 30,000 square foot warehouse with options for expansion as needed. In our first year of operations we distributed over 3 million pounds of food or the equivalent of 2.4 million meals to families in need in San Diego County. In FY 08-09, we anticipate distributing over 13 million pounds of food or 10.4 million meals to families in need. Today, FASD has increased their distribution to more than 1,250,000 pounds of food and other grocery products per month making us the largest distributor of donated food in the county. As always, FASD continues to be incredibly efficient. For every dollar spent last year ninety-seven cents (97%) went to fund programs.
