Description
Established in 1995, the Farallones Marine Sanctuary Association’s mission is to protect the unique ocean environment beyond the Golden Gate, in partnership with the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary, through education, outreach and stewardship.
Located just outside the Golden Gate and covering over 1,200 square feet of ocean, the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary is an extraordinary place. The Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary serves as the vital feeding and breeding grounds for the Pacific Ocean’s most integral marine species.
The unique topography of the Sanctuary makes it one of the most productive places on Earth. As a result, it supports the largest concentration of breeding seabirds in the contiguous United States and is a seasonal home for one of the largest populations of white sharks in the world.
