Founded in 1992 and operating for many years as the Center for Voting and Democracy, FairVote pursues an innovative, solution-oriented pro-democracy agenda to achieve “the way democracy will be.” We are the nation’s leading organization acting to transform our elections to achieve unfettered access to participation, a full spectrum of meaningful choices and majority rule with fair representation and a voice for all. Achieving our vision of democracy rests upon constitutional protection of the right to vote, direct election of the president, instant runoff voting for executive offices and proportional voting for legislative offices. We are proud of our history of developing innovative electoral reform proposals, and generating debate at a local, state and national level.
