Description
The mission of the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra is to explore the classical symphonic repertoire, both traditional and modern, for the diverse audience of the Northern Virginia region while building the musicians and audiences of the future through county-wide educational and outreach programs.
The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra major programs include a Masterworks program of five to seven classical concerts, a Holiday Pops concert, and a Valentine Pops Gala combining fundraising and a pops concert. During the summer, small groups of the FSO perform in partnership with the Fairfax County Parks Authority across the county in their parks. These thirty-five to forty “Sounds of Summer” and “Overture to Orchestra” programs are geared towards families and staffed by FSO volunteers. Additionally, a large contingent of the orchestra performs for one weekend in July as the resident orchestra of the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival.
