Description
The Fair Housing Center is a private, non-profit organization committed to ending discrimination in the rental, sales and financing of housing. The FHC provides investigative services (testing), advice, advocacy, conciliation, attorney referral and community education.
Federal law bans housing discrimination based on:
Race; Color; Religion; National Origin; Sex; Disability; and Familial Status. Michigan Law adds protection based on: Age and Marital Status. Individual cities throughout Michigan have additional protections including condition of pregnancy, source of income, family responsibilities, educational association, sexual orientation, gender identity, HIV status, political orientation, and use of adaptive devices or aids.
