The Eugene Field House is the home of Roswell Field, the lawyer for Dred Scott and his family when they sued for their freedom from slavery. Due to Roswell's involvement in this historically significant trial, the EFH has received National Historic Landmark designation, and is toured by local schools and youth daily. The House is also the birthplace and childhood home of Roswell's son, Eugene Field, "The Children's Poet."
