Originally organized in 1983 to respond to the needs of a growing Ethiopian community in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, ECDC quickly expanded to serve refugees and immigrants from many cultural backgrounds, while maintaining a focus on African newcomers. Over the past 20 years, ECDC has assisted over 140,000 people striving to become self-sufficient productive members of their new homeland.
