Description
Esperanza del Barrio is a membership-led community organization that assists the self-empowerment of low-income Latina immigrants and youth in New York City through leadership development, political/legal education, job skills training and grassroots organizing while promoting economic self-sufficiency thru micro-enterprise. Esperanza’s organizational goals are: 1) to facilitate the empowerment of immigrant community leaders who will bring about institutional change regarding issues that affect their lives; 2) to formalize the presence of Latina immigrants in New York City who are ready, capable, and willing to defend their rights; and 3) to identify, challenge, and change anti-immigrant/racist practices perpetrated by state and city agencies that impede this community’s ability to achieve self-determination.
