The EDF provides education and advocacy for seriously ill patients and there families.
Eric Drew was diagnosed with a rare "terminal" Leukemia in Dec. 2002. After two failed bone marrow transplants and numerous other treatments, he was sent home to die. Unwilling to accept that, he searched and finally found a then-experimental treatment using non-controversial stem cells from umbilical cord blood. Today, he's doing great!
Thousands of patients are sent home to die with, never being offered all their treatment options, either because their doctors don't know about them or worse, because the facilities where they are getting their care won't profit so they are not refered out.
