Description
Established in 1831, ESS is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization serving some 5,000 of New York City’s most vulnerable citizens each year through programs in foster care and adoption, early childhood education, after-school programs, group homes for developmentally disabled adults, and community re-integration of the formerly-incarcerated. Its mission is to transform the lives and communities of New Yorkers in need. For over 178 years, ESS has served all boroughs of New York City, with an emphasis on the Bronx and Manhattan, and a growing presence in Brooklyn. With a full-time staff of nearly 400 (which increases to some 600 when part-time staff are included), each of its programs involves a successful partnership or collaboration with public schools, child welfare agencies, or local community service providers.
