Description
The Ensemble Theatre exists to preserve African-American artistic expression; to enlighten, entertain and enrich a diverse community. Located in Houston, TX, The Ensemble is the largest professional African-American theatre in the nation that owns its facility and produces in-house. The Ensemble presents an annual Mainstage Season of six plays and musicals, provides Performing Arts Education workshops and performances for schools and community organizations, and conducts a Young Performers Program intensive summer theatre training institute for youth. The Ensemble was founded in 1976 by the late George Hawkins and celebrates its 30th Anniversary season in 2006-2007.
