Encore has been a caring presence to the elderly poor and homeless in the heart of NYC's theater district since 1977. Programs are designed to provide for the basic human needs for food and shelter, and to assist elderly people with their daily needs. Annually, Encore provides 82,750 congregate 56,250 home-delivered meals and 41,600 weekend meals. Other services include: health & social services, bereavement counseling, educational & recreational activities, support programs for homebound seniors including a shop & escort service and friendly visiting, and supportive housing for homeless elderly with mental illness. Services are provided at the Encore Senior Center and Encore 49 Residence. Encore's latest project is the construction of a new housing facility for very low-income seniors.
