Description

The Elgin Choral Union mission states: We are dedicated to the highest standards of excellence in creating and performing choral music for the joy, enrichment, and education of our membership and our audiences. The oldest performing arts ensemble in the Fox River Valley, Elgin Choral Union (ECU) is a 110 adult volunteer chorus with 8 professional section leaders. Initially founded in 1947 by C. Dean Chipman to form a chorus large enough to perform the Brahms’ “A German Requiem,” fifteen existing church choirs formed a “union” to participate in the premiere performance on May 7, 1948, at the First Congregational Church of Elgin. ECU has continued to learn, rehearse, and perform a variety of choral classics throughout the ensuing six decades. ECU has been affiliated with Elgin Community College (ECC) as an in-residence-ensemble since 1978 and presents three annual public performances at the Blizzard Theatre as well as numerous free community events in the Fox River Valley.
