El Sol is a publicly chartered dual-Immersion school with a predominantly low-income Latino population (nearly 750 students). In these past few years, the school has recorded many significant academic achievements. Our students recently scored 880 on state test scores (well above proficient); up from 559 just a few short years ago. It has been awarded Distinguished School status in California and has won the attention of the authors of the Journal for the Center of American Progress as one of the best charter schools serving Latinos in the nation.
Of note, El Sol, through the mostly volunteer initiatives of public, non-profit and private sector leaders, provides coordinated health and wellness, literacy, computer, financial planning, nutrition, legal and other services on-site to families and kids. The School site is open almost 24 hours a day, including weekends, to serve the community.
