East Lake Foundation

The East Lake Foundation helps the families of The Villages of East Lake and the students of the Charles R. Drew Charter School to break the cycle of poverty and maximize their potential through affordable housing, education, recreation and connections with the broader community. The Foundation was established in 1995 to develop and raise money for programs designed to help families of Atlanta's inner-city East Lake community rise above poverty. Drawing on the resources of public and private partners, the Foundation developed a new community – The Villages of East Lake, a mixed income apartment community; Charles R. Drew Charter School, serving 820 students in Pre-K through 8th grade, East Lake Family YMCA; Sheltering Arms Early Learning and Family Center; and the Charlie Yates Golf Course – on the site of what was a blighted public housing project.
