Description
The Early Learning Coalition understands that school readiness and success in life is based largely on forming strong early literacy skills. We know from research that children at greatest risk for reading difficulties in primary grades are those entering school with sub-average verbal skills, a lack of experiences with books, low levels of phonological awareness, limited exposure to the mechanics of print and poor alphabet recognition.
The Coalition works with child care centers and schools through its subsidized child care and free Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) programs to help insure over 4,000 pre-school children overcome these challenges to be ready for school.
