Description

We are one of over 40 tuition free middle schools providing educational and leadership development for financially disadvantaged children. The Nativity model includes an extended learning day with a college preparatory curriculum and ongoing community service projects. Collectively, these schools have an over 90% high school and university graduation rate, producing qualified civic leaders.

Four years ago a group of concerned individuals met to consider how to bring about positive change for under served people in Durham. This group decided that effective change could only occur if led by persons in the community who were committed and energized to do so. The Nativity educational model provided the framework, a startup grant was secured, a faculty and staff recruited, and the Durham Nativity School opened in August 2002.
