Description

The Dr. Piper Center is a 501 (c ) (3), United Way agency and proud sponsor of 3 programs. The Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs provide volunteer opportunities and community involvement to low income seniors. Foster Grandparent volunteers provide one on one attention, mentoring and tutoring to children and youth with special needs. They serve in schools, day care, after school programs and head start centers. Senior Companion volunteers provide friendship and assistance so their peers will maintain their independence they've worked for all their lives. They help ease loneliness and illness by being a friend , bolstering self-esteem, solving problems and providing practicle assistance. They also provide transportation to go grocery shopping or medical appointments. Senior Employment Program provides services to enable older adults to achieve gainful employment and person development through community service and training.
