Dr Lisa Thompson Center for Family Education at Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana

about

Dr. Lisa Thompson was a well known pediatrician in Fishers, IN. She suffered a TBI and eventually committed suicide, which is four times more prevalent in TBI victims. The unit was made possible by donations from her funeral and at the request of her family. The mission of the unit is to assist families of traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients by providing education, community resources, stress management training, and social support. It was founded especially to help the individual and their families better adjust after hospitalization, and improve long term outcome. Through this program, RHI offers a unique and internationally-recognized program for people with brain injuries and their families. Over the past four years, the unit has received over $1.3 million in federal and state grants for research and for the development of new clinical treatments for people with brain injury. Additionally, the Center has attracted professional researchers and provided valuable training to aspiring externs.
