Description

A nonprofit organization dedicated to giving back to recently diagnosed cancer patients residing in Douglas County. Ethel C Jessen or Neighbor Helping Neighbor was est in 1992 to give back to the community. In Feb 2004 the organization was renamed Douglas County Neighbor Helping Neighbor and registered as a 501 Nonprofit Corp.

Cancer patient must contact the organization within 30 days of being diagnosed to be eligible for assistance. We need address, diagnosis date, physician, and type of cancer. If person meets criteria we give a check to assist with everyday living expenses or to use at their discression.

As of Dec 2006 we give $200 per person if they meet the criteria. Our goal is exceed $500 when diagnosed and follow individual six months to assist with gas costs.

We are in need of other caring individuals in Douglas County to volunteer their time. Each board member is a volunteer, and doesn't get paid, but the reward is emotionally and spiritually gratifying.
