Description
Family Literacy is unique in that it works with the whole family giving a broad base of support to make a sustainable difference in the family. Strong, caring relationships and an environment of trust are created providing the support families need for their success. We provide adult basic education and GED preparation for parents as well as high-quality child development classes for their children, thereby removing one barrier to continuing education and economic self-sufficiency. Life and parenting skills training, parent and child together (PACT) activities, and literacy based home visits provide additional support and education for families. The main focus of adult students is obtaining a GED; this is the first step toward helping families become self sufficient. After receiving a GED, 85% of students continue their education by enrolling in a higher education institution, immediately joining the workforce or a Military branch of service.
