Founded in 1979, DREDF is a law and policy center managed by people with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities. The organization promotes the civil and human rights of people with disabilities to secure their full integration into society. DREDF fulfills its mission nationally and internationally by providing training, technical assistance, education, policy analysis and development, and legal advocacy. The organization devotes considerable resources to empowering parents in self-advocacy because an integrated education for children with disabilities is the cornerstone of independent living. DREDF has been significantly involved with every major disability legal reform in the United States and is closely connected to grassroots disability groups in the United States and elsewhere.
