Description

Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation is committed to making a difference by creating life changing opportunities for youth and families. In 1997, Angela Reyes founded DHDC from her living room, “because I was tired of burying children”. Efforts to reduce violence resulted in DHDC’s initial program which forged a truce between rival gangs by encouraging them to “retire” in return for jobs. DHDC is committed to providing quality, innovative and culturally appropriate services, primarily in Southwest Detroit and is considered the leading organization in the region in gang prevention/ intervention and services to high-risk youth. DHDC works in partnership with education, business, and the community in order to overcome barriers to employment, education and healthy lifestyles. Their comprehensive, bilingual services have received national recognition for their effectiveness in helping hard-to-serve populations, and reach over 5,000 youth, adults and families annually.
