Description
The Destroyer Escort Historical Museum is chartered by the New York State Board of Regents for the purpose of restoring, interpreting, and maintaining the historic naval ship U.S.S. SLATER. Our goal is to educate the public on the history, lifestyle, and sacrifices made by our veterans during the Battle of the Atlantic and the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II and the Cold War years.
This is accomplished by producing educational materials and programs and by restoring U.S.S. SLATER, which serves as a naval museum and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Museum, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, does not rely on taxpayer money, but on the generosity and patriotic spirit of those interested in preserving our history. It is funded by contributions from loyal members, volunteers, former ship crews, corporations and private foundations.
