Description
Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History is a museum located in Augusta, Ga. The mission is to promote the legacy of Lucy Craft Laney through history, art, and the preservation of her home.
Lucy Craft Laney was born in Macon , Georgia during slavery.She learned to read and write by the time she was four years old. By the time she was 15 years old and was well educated and was accepted into the first class of Atlanta, Georgia and was graduated with five other students.
She went back to Macon to teach for a while and then she moved on to Milledgeville, Savannah, and finally Augusta, Georgia. In Augusta, she made her greatest contributions.
She started the Haines and Normal ndus- trial Institute, the Lamar Nursing School and a kindergarten for Black chldren.
