Description
DC Central Kitchen is a non-profit, industrial kitchen that recovers surplus food to prepare meals for homeless shelters and other social services in DC. The meals are prepared by students of our job training program that helps men and women get back on their feet by teaching them food service skills and helping them to land jobs in local restaurants and hotels. Through these activities, we hope to draw attention to a more vibrant and entrepreneurial approach to fighting social ills.
In 16 years, DC Central Kitchen has grown to become a national model for more than 60 “community kitchens,” as well as 20 high school based community kitchens and eight college-based “Campus Kitchens” operating throughout the United States.
