The organization was founded in 2004 in memory of Dawn E. Petersen of Appleton, Wisconsin. Dawn, a 35 year old wife and mother, passed away from Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) in April 2002. The Foundation is operated to support families living with serious illness & has 3 major projects:
1. Phone Cards: Provided to patients for use while they are receiving treatment in order to permit them remain in touch with their support network.
2. Dawn's Garden: Located at Kathy's House in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The garden is a beautiful place to talk, relax and reflect during a loved one's treatment.
3: Life Enhancing Grants: Grants are unrestricted as they are intended to help enhance the life of a person living with serious illness. Some people use the funds for medication, treatment or travel; others use the funds as income replacement for a care giver or to make their life more enjoyable in some small way.
