Description
At DIW, children and youth from all backgrounds come together in a structured classroom setting with professional instructors who offer classes at all levels of ballet, modern, jazz, African, hip hop, and tap dance. Using the discipline of dance, DIW helps children develop critical life skills such as commitment, follow-through, and teamwork. The goals of DIW are to:
*Bring performing arts education to underserved communities;
*Use arts education to involve parents, educators, professional artists, and the community in the lives of the District's children and youth;
*Foster mentoring relationships between students and professionals working in the arts;
*Bring high-quality dance training to underserved children and young people;
*Reach nontraditional audiences through various forms of cultural expression;
*Speak to the lives of the urban community through Washington Reflections Dance Company performances.
