Description
The Custer Inst. est. 1927. Objectives: to further understanding of the sciences, particularly astronomy, and appreciation for the arts. Its Education Through Research program brings active scientists together with students to provide hands-on research training. Scholastic achievement awards are also presented. Amateur and professional scientists are provided access to the facilities for their research. Local artists are provided exhibit space to showcase their work. The Music Project brings quality programs to the community. The Institute houses Long Island's oldest public observatory, open to the general public every Saturday. Frequent lectures, classes and workshops by distinguished scientists. Funds are required to support these programs, maintain/enhance facilities/resources so they may better serve the researchers, students, members and community.
