Description
The CRUDEM Foundation, Inc is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1993 and responsible for the operation of Hopital Sacre Coeur in Milot, Haiti (the poorest country in the Western hemisphere).
The largest private hospital and only reliable medical provider in the region; it has experienced unprecedented growth particularly since 2002. The numbers of patients treated at the hospital has doubled in the past 5 years with Community Health patients tripling since 2002. In 2007 the hospital treated over 57,000 people on an out-patient basis & performed over 1,000 surgeries. It had over 4,000 admissions & 1,322 newborn deliveries, these babies would otherwise have been born in mud huts with no medical support or follow up care. With no pharmacy or laboratory in the area; last year the hospital filled 148,000 prescriptions & completed over 72,000 lab tests. It served on average 24 children daily in its Nutrition Center & provided over 3,000 patient visits through the Mobile Clinic project.
