CRESP Center for Transformative Action

The mission of the CRESP Center for Transformative Action is to encourage individuals to create and participate in projects and communities that are working towards a just, peaceful, and sustainable society. The Center is practicing, teaching, and advocating a model for social change activism that breaks the traditional us versus them approach. This model, known as Transformative Action, is inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi's non-violent action.Transformative action suggests that social change agents will be most successful if they: 1) Expose and bear witness to injustice; 2) Respond to injustice by first engaging in learning conversations, and then by developing positive actions intended to transform conflict, animosity, and hatred into cooperation, synergy, and goodwill; and 3) Have as their major goal a proactive, cooperative, inclusive approach to constructing better alternatives, new visions, and parallel institutions.
