Description
Founded in 2000 as an alternative to local elementary schools by a dedicated group of Brooklyn parents and the Beginning with Children Foundation, CPCS aims to nourish intellectual curiosity and to inspire its students to become self-directed, independent, lifelong learners. CPCS delivers a high-quality, well rounded education to a student body of 300 students in grades K-5, 99 percent of whom are minorities, 80 percent eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, and 11 percent students with special needs.
Charter schools are free, public schools that operate independently of school districts. In exchange for flexibility in areas like curriculum, staff, and schedule, charter schools are held accountable for meeting the academic and fiscal goals established in their charters.
