The Community Forestry Research Fellowship (CFRF) Program seeks to advance community-based natural resource management (CBNRM) in the United States by supporting student research and internships in rural and urban communities, and developing related outreach to the community. The primary goal is to promote mutual learning among students, researchers, and communities about the conditions and practices that promote the creation of a more equitable, democratic, and sustainable society. CFRF provides research and networking needs through four major activities: 1) funding graduate student-led participatory research on CBNRM in the US, 2) providing opportunities for undergraduate students from disadvantaged communities to acquire hands-on experience with CBNRM and participatory research, 3) building and nurturing strong links among communities, academics, government agencies, NGOs, and the for-profit/private sector, and 4) conducting workshops.
