Community Coalition was founded in 1990 by residents and local activists in response to the devastating impact that the crack cocaine epidemic had on South Los Angeles. The Coalition's mission to "help transform the social and economic conditions in South Los Angeles that foster addiction, crime, violence and poverty by building a mass-based community institution that involves residents in creating, influencing and changing public policy."
