Description
The Great Start Collaborative of Jackson County, MI was established in 2006 to begin building a comprehensive system of services and supports that will help parents provide a great start for their children ages 0- 5.
The Collaborative has begun Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to help ensure all young children have access to high-quality, age-appropriate books. This program mails a free, hard cover, age appropriate book to every registered child's home every month. A child registered at birth would have received 60 books by the time they enter kindergarten.
This program is completely supported by local and private funds. The support of the community is vital to its success. The program is economical, at just $30/year per child to provide a book a month.
