Description
Formed in 1987 by a community task force, CIS-M is a private/public partnership that links children, families and schools with the community resources they need for academic and social success. Students served by CIS-M are often performing below the standards established for their grade levels. Many of these students face multiple challenges such as limited adult support, inadequate access to healthcare, debilitating learning environments outside the school and lack of access to the community resources they need to stay in school and learn effectively. The original task force believed and it is still true, that when students are surrounded with the resources they need to learn and a caring and supportive environment, they are able to overcome the barriers before them and experience educational success and become productive contributing citizens.
