Description
CIS began in 1979 with one program in the Acres Homes community and in the last 30 years has grown to over 110 programs in the Houston area serving over 39,000 children annually. CIS provides on-campus delivery and coordination of student assistance services focused on keeping kids in school and preparing them for life. CIS Houston is the first Texas implementation of the national Communities In Schools dropout prevention model, and the Houston program remains the largest CIS program in the state.
