Here are a few affirmations that define the core mission of our church:
We are seeking to build a multicultural community of faith that is inclusive and accepting, rooted in Christian faith and practice, and open to our neighbors’ faith and spirituality.
As a community of faith we seek to live, move, and have our being in the all-inclusive love of God and neighbor that Jesus Christ lived and taught.
We dedicate our wonderful facility on Common Street to be common ground for the common good and a place of community-building across cultures, generations, and beliefs.
We are a community oriented church, focused on growing community and meeting the needs of our neighbors, both near and far. At Common Street we seek to grow in understanding of persons of other cultures, faiths, and walks of life as we grow in Christian faith. As we grow in faith, we grow in love and understanding of ourselves and others and God. We are called into lives of charity, justice, peace, and reconciliation.
Our church’s mission is broad and holistic, and there are many ways for persons to connect, whether through worship, prayer, music and the arts, our youth center project, homeless ministry, alternative healing ministry, community events, social justice activities, spiritual book club, etc. We are a church with a fluid center, rather than a fixed center. We seek to let everything we do flow from that fluid center and become a point of connection to an authentic community of faith.
