Since 1979, Colorado Educational Theatre (CET) has been bringing theatre-in-education performances and workshops primarily to students, ages 4-15. The company’s innovative approach to education focuses on children’s natural impulse to “act out” the life around them, enabling the classroom to become a laboratory for exploring real life experiences. This approach contributes not only to arts education, but also to the personal and academic development of all students, especially those who achieve best through experiential learning. Most students are at-risk, with little opportunity to participate in the arts outside of school. Each year Artist-Teachers work hand-in-hand with educators to conduct hundreds of drama workshops and student performances in the schools. Focus areas include theatre and related arts, playwriting, violence prevention/conflict management (Building Bridges Program®), and literacy skills. Evaluations support the positive results of these programs.
