In 1974, the Attention Homes were opened as an alternative to detention (jail) for youth ages 10 - 18. The homes were established by concerned citizens to help troubled youth stay out of detention and live in a safe, caring environment. The ultimate goal is to help these young people become responsible and productive citizens. The emphasis of the program is ATTENTION. Each youth receives equal treatment and attention. Privileges are granted to the youngsters only as they are earned. Rules are flexible but firm. Youth attend school or GED classes, as well as attend group sessions to enhance daily living and social skills, and counseling sessions if needed. The Attention Home staff firmly believe that "Attention NOW can make the difference later" in the life of misdirected youth in Alabama.
