Research, outreach and education on coastal ecological health. The program provides funds to forward research and implementation of research data to help coastal communities preserve their valuable coastal resources. This includes student internships, volunteer coastal water quality monitoring, matching funds for sample and data analysis and fosters collaboration between scientists, citizens and regulators in the development of real time data based management strategies to preserve, protect and restore the health of our coastal water bodies. K-12 and public outreach and education is an important component of the overall research mission. Maintaining and promoting environmental health in the coastal zone is fundamental to maintaining species diversity and protecting the animals that depend on these systems.
