The Coastal Humane Society (CHS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization, animal shelter, & companion animal adoption agency. They currently serve 75,000 people across 450 square miles, caring for over 3,000 stray, abused or abandoned cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets, chinchillas, birds, hamsters & guinea pigs annually. Since their founding, CHS has cared for & adopted out tens of thousands of animals, & each one is spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, tested, & ready for a new home. They boast a number of programs & services committed to compassionate care & excellent animal placements, returning lost animals to their families, providing support & resources for pet owners, & educating the community.
They receive no funding from the state or federal government, & town contracts make up less than 7% of what it costs to run the shelter- for the rest CHS relies on donations to keep their doors open.
