Description
Founded by Raffi Tachdjian MD, MPH, an immunologist and pediatric pain specialist from the Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA, is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation whose mission is to purchase musical instruments and provide Music Therapy for chronically ill patients. As of November 2007, 55 instruments have been donated.
Brain imaging studies have shown music to be linked to mathematical, memory, as well as to coordination/control regions of the human brain. Most sick children spend their evenings in the hospital playing video games or watching TV. Instead, Music Therapy can help with their sadness, pain, and overal coping mechanism. From the sales of musical albums and from donations Children's Music Fund hopes to raise enough funds to provide every hospitalized child with the opportunity to be exposed to music and its positive effects.
