Description
Rescue facility for abused, abandoned and unwanted chickens. The commercial egg industry has no use for male chicks and often throw them in a barrel leaving them to suffer for days until they are gassed to death. One alternative is for them to sell the male chicks to local feed stores to sell as Easter pets. Many times after the holiday is over the people who purchased them find out they are roosters and often the city where they live does not allow chickens. The owner's do not know what to do with them and many times just set them free. The captive birds do not have many of their natural instincts and are often tortured by neighborhood children or suffer injuries and death from stray dogs and cats. CHOE is a safe place to drop off these unwanted male chicks. We take care of them and try to find them homes in the country after rehabilitating them by allowing them to re-learn their natural instincts.
