The Charlie Brown Emergency Services Foundation (CBESF) was created by the family and friends of Charles “Charlie” Douglas Brown Jr. to highlight and promote the character and dedication of Charlie Brown to his community and to support the numerous emergency service providers in our state and community. Deputy Charlie Brown of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office was tragically killed in the line of duty while trying to apprehend an armed suspect. Deputy Brown had served in the Narcotics Unit and the K9 Unit with the Martin County Sheriff's Office and Williamston Police Department for 15 years. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran and served in Desert Storm. He previously served with the North Carolina Department of Corrections and was a member of the PERT team as a sniper.
