Description
CASA of Monterey County's community volunteer advocates serve children who are dependents of the Juvenile Dependency Court. These children have been removed from their homes due to serious abuse, neglect, or abandonment; they are also known as children in foster care. They are placed in foster homes, group homes, or sometimes with a relative or near kin; their economic level reflects poverty levels, and the age range is birth – 18 years old.
CASA advocates demonstrate to children the alternatives to abuse, disregard, and violence affording them with new perspectives to life and teaching them that adults can be relied upon for nurturance, guidance, stability, and support. CASA advocates provide a compensatory environment, helping children develop the skills they will need to be responsible, productive citizens as they enter adulthood.
