Description
Coastal Plain CASA serves abused and neglected children in four south Georgia counties (Irwin, Tift, Turner and Worth) by training volunteers to advocate for their best interests in juvenile court and other settings. CASA volunteers receive extensive training in juvenile law, family dynamics and child development. They are then assigned by the court to serve a particular child or sibling group. The CASA develops an understanding of the situation, maintains close contact with the child, family and social services, and presents written reports and recommendations to the judge at each court hearing. Children who have a CASA volunteer gain a voice in the courtroom, and judges gain extra "eyes and ears" as they consider decisions that will forever impact a child's life.
